Gregor started playing guitar at age 11 after a couple lessons from his father. At secondary school he started playing bass, drums and singing in various school bands including fronting his first rock band ‘void’ at age 14 with his brother Fraser.
By the time Gregor left school at 17 he was teaching guitar to support his student lifestyle at North Glasgow College where he gained an HND in Music Performance and Promotion. It was here he was tutored by the legendary Scottish session drummer Ted Mckenna (Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Womack & Womack, Michael Schenkner Group – MSG, etc.) and was asked to play bass in his band. At college Gregor also met and collaborated with charting Scottish Dance act “The Rhythmic State”. A position that saw him play numerous times to sell out crowds in Scotland’s most important venues such as; The Barrowlands, The Carling (now 02) Academy, Braehead Arena, Room At The Top, The Edinburgh Corn Exchange, the Metro and many other top clubs and dance festivals. In his time with TRS Gregor started producing his own dance music whilst playing session guitar and bass for producer Nick Williams (also known as “Alfreska”) on many euro charting releases.
Around the same time Gregor formed and fronted his own 3 piece funk act “Rolla” that gigged all over Scotland to critical acclaim winning many “Battle Of The Bands” competitions and even received Radio 1 airplay from the late great John Peel.
In 2007 Gregor formed Techno/Rock Crossover act “Danse Or Die”, a live dance act where he performed the roles of songwriter, producer and frontman. In their 3 year Career they supported The Human League, The Stereo MC’s, The Levellers and The Whip, playing the majority of Scotlands top venues and festivals.
As a Session musician/ producer Gregor “G-man” James has had a very successful career to date with highlights including performing on and producing albums selling over 150,000 units (for which he has both platinum and triple platinum discs) and numerous performances on international TV to audiences up to 40 million. Throughout his career G-man has played regularly to capacity crowds in the worlds most popular venues such as Wembley Arena, Glasgow SECC and festivals worldwide up to 60,000 people and has even hosted his own radio show! G-man brings his vast experience and infectious, original take on stage performance to Bags Of Rock, the band he formed in 2010 that is, in his own words, his biggest achievement to date.
